Weleda is a holistic skincare brand in harmony with nature and human beings. It was founded by humanitarian and philosopher Rudolf Steiner in the 1920s. He also developed the principles of biodynamic farming and anthroposophical medicine, and today many of these principles are still used to create their products. Weleda strives to source only the finest ingredients from biodynamic, organic and wild-crafted suppliers. Read More >
Weleda don’t just buy organic ingredients on the open market, but work in partnership with growers to ensure they know where the ingredients are grown and how the plants are processed. They have farms all over the world including Italy, Spain, Romania, Peru, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco, Moldova and the Czech Republic, to grow plants and fruits in their natural habitat, and ensure the potency of the ingredients.
Weleda is certified by NATRUE, which has the highest international criteria for natural and organic finished products, not just ingredients. The brand create beautiful natural and organic products, in a way that is ethically, socially and environmentally responsible. For these reasons, the Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) accredited Weleda as a member.
What Weleda can’t grow in their own farms, they source from fair trade partners around the world. Fifty per cent of Weleda’s fair trade partners currently employ Biodynamic® methods, and the company is working towards a target of 100 per cent. Not only do they demand fair trade, but they work to ensure everyone and everything along the entire growing, harvesting and manufacturing process is treated fairly, with care and respect. In choosing a Weleda product you have been part of a process that has created sustainable livelihoods for developing communities around the world.
Some of Weleda's most popular products include their Skin Food, Birch and Sea Buckthorn lines. Each plant range is tailored to different skin types, ages or concerns; for example, the Iris line is to balance younger skin types, while the antioxidant-rich Pomegranate is to care for more mature skins. The Birch line is a bodycare range, to help detox the skin and body.
