While winter is the perfect time to experiment with bold burgundy and sensual scarlet lip colours, nothing beats the versatility, wearability and universal appeal of the perfect nude lipstick. Here we showcase our favourite natural and organic nude lip colours and help you find your perfect match.
While choosing a nude lipstick might sound easy in theory, it’s actually quite tricky as the wrong shade can wreak havoc on your complexion and make you look washed out and generally unwell. The secret lies in selecting a hue that’s a close match to your natural lip colour – but just a pinch deeper. We advise against picking a shade that’s lighter than your natural lip colour, as this will result in the dreaded ‘washed out’ effect.
It’s also important to take your skin tone into consideration, for example, if your skin has warm undertones, a nude lipstick that’s a warm caramel-peach in colour will likely work a treat. Here are some of our favourite nude shades that serve as a stunning makeup staple all year round:
27 Kisses is a beautiful shimmering brown plum that’s ideal for everyday wear. We find this shade is flattering on just about every skin tone, making it a fantastic makeup bag staple.
This pretty nude-pink hue is soft and subtle, yet extremely sophisticated and flattering for everyday wear. It looks fantastic on people with fair skin with pink undertones.
This pinky-brown hue creates that perfect ‘my lips but better’ look. It glides on silky smooth and has a high shine, luminous finish. This shade works well on medium skin tones with a hint of warmth.
This is one of our favourites here at Beautiful Because, and it’s not just because of the pretty packaging – Dream State is the perfect nude-beige. “Dream State is what I wear on my lips,” says brand founder Kirsten Kjaer Weis. “It’s a beautiful nude that completes a natural, yet polished look.”
For darker skin tones, we love this sensual, soft and utterly gorgeous shade from W3ll People. This all-natural, magic colour stick is also a great multi-tasker and can be used on eyes, cheeks and lips to take your entire look from drab to fab in seconds.
The beauty of a nude lipstick lies in its versatility – you can pair it with just a hint of blush and a coat of mascara and you’re all set, or alternatively you can couple it with bold, dramatic eye makeup such as a smoky eye or sensual winged eyeliner. This winter, we love the pairing of a chic nude lip with chocolate eyeshadow for easy daytime-to-evening wear, or alternatively if you want to take things to the next level, try combining nude lips with a wash of burgundy or dusty purple eyeshadow combined with subtle eyeliner and two coats of mascara for a look that’s bang on trend this season.
