Splurge Or Save? Skincare Solutions

Whether you have the budget and penchant for luxury skin care, or not, you can rest-assured that all the brands we stock, regardless of their price tag, have been carefully chosen, for their high quality ingredients and effective results. Here are the essential skin care steps we recommend everyone incorporate into their daily routines, to keep skin in optimum condition. We share both more affordable and luxury options, for the same product types.

Cleanse

Don’t be afraid to try a cream formula. Natural cream cleansers are highly effective for removing makeup and grime. And because they maintain the skin's natural sebum balance by only removing what is sitting on top of the skin, they are perfect for sensitive skin. Even if you have oily skin and get break outs, cream cleansers can be the best solution for your skin type, helping your skin to regulate its sebum levels (since it could in fact be the foaming cleanser you’re using which is causing these issues). Here's a tip to remember with cream cleansers, they are best applied to DRY skin and then wiped off with a moist cloth. A wet face will discourage the cream cleanser from adhering and doing its job due to simple chemistry - oil and water don't mix!

Tone

Toners are back. The old school witch-hazel toners which would suck the life out of your skin are out. A new breed of gentle, effective toners are in. Toners are important because they can help to keep pore size in check (reducing blackhead occurrence), balance pH levels, and reduce redness and puffiness. They also prep your skin for receiving what comes next (serums, creams) and allow you to get better value from that product by making it go further across your skin.

Exfoliate

Most people know exfoliation is the key to smooth skin, but it is also the key to keeping skin clear and youthful. Exfoliation increases micro-circulation, speeding up skin renewal, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also lighten and brighten age and sunspots, as well as decreasing blackheads and acne risk. Choose one which contains small exfoliating granules (no microbeads) and steer away from the old-school apricot kernel variety as it can damage skin. 2-3 times a week should do it, post-cleansing.

Repair

Serums are a must. Serums are concentrated formulas which even when applied in small amounts deliver big results! "I have been using a serum for years to help fade acne scars left from my teens and now to keep my skin clear, smooth and wrinkle free as I enter my late 30s. A good organic serum should contain rosehip oil because of its potent rejuvenate and anti-ageing properties," says Bridget Carmady, founder of Clémence Organics. Use them every day before applying face cream.

Body Love

Body love. When we think about looking after our skin, we generally focus on our face, neglecting the rest of our body. The skin on our hands, arms, legs etc. is also quick to show signs of ageing including sun damage, pigmentation and fine lines. Give it the attention it deserves every day by using a good quality body moisturiser or natural oil, rich in rejuvenate organic oils like rosehip oil. Dry skin brushing once a week will also help to keep it glowing and get those skin cells turning over.
