Our beauty inspiration of the week is Jessica Alba, not only is she a beautiful actress but a wellness warrior too, having recently published her book The Honest Life and founded her eco baby store, The Honest Co. She has some fantastic green health and beauty tips in her book, and a few we wanted to share.
Having suffered with asthma and allergies since a child, Jessica has to be careful what she uses and it was after reacting to a detergent when washing her baby's clothes that she decided to start looking at the ingredients in every day household essentials. Realising she didn’t want to use products containing toxic chemicals on her baby, she began a quest to create a healthy environment for her family and herself.
Jessica discovered there are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market (in household products and cosmetics) that have never been properly studied and was tired of the out of control US marketplace, spurring her to create her own product line. It took three years of dedication and research to create her line of home and baby products, launching The Honest Co in 2012.
When it comes to Honest Beauty, Jessica uses natural and organic brands wherever possible. She says honest beauty should be "clean", "fresh", "healthy" and "uncomplicated" and keeps her daily beauty regime simple and eco friendly, with a love for products she can apply with her fingers. She explains, "Honest Beauty isn’t really about the slew of products you are painting on. It’s about being comfortable in your own skin and showing your inner glow."
Here are Jessica's top makeup tips from her "10 Minute Face" for every day, and the natural products Beautiful Because recommend to get the look:
Jessica recommends mixing them together in the palm of your hand if you’re time pressed, then finishing your hair so the product has time to absorb before you apply your makeup.
Jessica applies concealer with an angled brush, under her eyes and along the sides of her nose, before blend, blend, blending!
To achieve Jessica’s full volume, dramatic black lashes, we recommend Nvey Eco’s Organic Volume Mascara in Black.
Jessica likes to tap cream blush onto the apples of her cheeks.
To get her luminous, radiant glow, try Ere Perez’s Verstaile Vanilla Highlighter Falling Star. Not only is it great for adding shimmer to cheekbones, but brow bones and the cupid's bow too.
Jessica advises dabbing a lip balm to the centre of your lower lip, since this is where the light hits first.
We love Ere Perez’s lipbars, which come in a range of shades and condition and protect lips. Love is a pretty pink tint, perfect for every day colour and shine.
Jessica uses a brow pencil to perfect her statement brows.
Try Lavera’s Eyebrow Pencil All Brows for adding definition and colour.
The Honest Life not only has some great eco beauty tips, but health, food, home and baby, particularly handy for new mums. It is available in Australia from www.booktopia.com.au
