Natural Skincare for Rosacea

Rosacea can affect any one at any age but is most common in the middle-aged. Cooler, winter weather can also increase the risk of an outbreak. The face becomes flushed due to dilation of small blood vessels and can range from a slight redness and flushing to red lumps on the nose, chin and cheeks. But no need to get flustered! Mother Nature has the solution...

Dryness and irritation usually affects the face too. Rosacea can be exasperated by temperature changes; sun exposure; spicy meals and certain foods; alcohol; caffeine; vigorous exercise; saunas and steam rooms; as well as the chemicals, fruit acids and alcohol found in regular skin care. So how can natural skincare help? By calming and hydrating the skin, and reducing the appearance of redness.

Rosacea Skin Recommendations

Use cream cleansers, gentle hydrating toners and light lotions to moisturise. Look out for calming green antioxidants like vitamin E, green tea, cucumber, avocado and aloe vera. Purified water spritzers, hydrators containing chamomile and calendula. To remove makeup, use an antibacterial natural oil such as jojoba or coconut.

Argan oil, Rosehip oil and Tamanu oil have all been known to alleviate rosacea symptoms. Argan oil has intensive skin healing properties, and is rich in vitamin E. MV Skincare's Rose Soothing Moisturiser is ideal for rosacea sufferers since it contains Rose Otto essential oil that's very calming to inflamed skin and treating broken thread veins. Pai's Rosehip Oil contains anti-bacterial rosemary essential oil as well as rosehip (below).

Moisturiser is key for preventing the burning, itching and irritation often associated with rosacea. Building a strong moisture barrier will help keep out impurities and irritants that can disrupt sensitive skin.  Natural tinted moisturisers can also counteract the redness of rosacea skin.

Rosacea Skin Irritants

Avoid skin care products containing active ingredients, AHAs, vitamin A, citrus fruit extracts, some alcohols, Witch Hazel, fragrance, menthol, peppermint, eucalyptus oil, astringents and most exfoliators.
