Natural Makeup for Black Women

Black women tend to have beautiful, wrinkle-free skin that can be cool (blue based) or warm (yellow or red based) in tone.

You can accentuate your best features using bright makeup colours. We recommend the following natural and mineral makeup as a guideline:

Powder or liquid natural foundation to even out skin tone

Blusher – Coral, tawny brown or terracotta

Highlighter – Golden shades

Brow pencil or powder – Dark brown is usually better than black, depending on your skin and hair shade

Mascara – Black

Eyeliner – Black for a natural look, or brighter colours such as green, blue or plum. Liquid or powder liner along the upper, lash line emphasises eye shape.

Eyeshadow – Black women suit bright colours and, usually having brown or black eyes, can wear whatever they like. See our eye colour recommendations for more information. However, for a natural look, deep brown shadows tend to suit paler black skin tones blackcurrant and charcoal suits darker tones.

Lipstick or Lip gloss – Plum and berry shades and bright colours, including warm reds are extremely flattering. Pinky browns are a natural shade for pale black skin tones, while plum can look natural on darker tones. Remember the shade of your lipstick/gloss should be in keeping with your eye makeup (whether warm or cool).
