Olivia Jenkins, business manager of Australian natural skincare brand Kosmea, has just launched a new book and treatment program, Clear Skin Project, to share her path to acne-free skin and help fellow sufferers. Beautiful Because caught up with the natural beauty to find out more...
I suffered from acne from the tender age of 13. It affected me in a lot of ways. I had very low self-esteem and I did not like leaving the house without a full face of makeup (you can imagine how frustrating this was for my family and friends!). A simple trip to the supermarket was out of the question! I didn’t enjoy going out and seeing friends either because I was anxious about what they thought of my skin. For this reason, I was also afraid to meet new people. It was vicious cycle every single day.
I tried everything to treat my skin! From antibiotics, to benzyl peroxide, to steaming – anything you can think of I’d tried!
My mum brought me up in a holistic way, but I always rebelled against her – hence my poor nutrition and lifestyle choices, which only exasperated my skin. I purposely missed my sister’s birthday party as I was so conscious about my skin and that’s when I realised I needed some further help. I discovered that naturopathy could help my skin under the advice of Tracey Cook.
Tracey first analysed my lifestyle and then conducted a routine check on my body. She picked up that I was gluten intolerant as well as allergic to yeast. Tracey created a food plan for me and gave me some herbal remedies to help my stomach heal itself. Following her guidelines and simple lifestyle changes, I saw clearer skin in a matter of weeks.
Tracey Cook is a big believer in being happy and how this improves your general health and well being. Something as simple as going for a walk, or sending your best friend a text message can make you happy and therefore make a world of difference in your life. This has been a big factor in my general health and wellbeing. Naturopathy also believes in moderation and balance. Undertaking the Clear Skin Project focuses on balancing our lifestyle to include all the benefits for clear skin. I have found moderating my intake of certain foods and beverages really helps my skin and my well being.
Clear Skin Project is about achieving clear skin for life, the way nature intended. Using nutrition and lifestyle changes, I have created a 8 week program designed to help individuals suffering from acne heal their acne from the inside out. My inspiration came from my own acne journey. Suffering from acne from 13 years old, I wanted to educate and inspire others going through the same.

Synthetic chemicals can cause further skin irritation and flare ups. Synthetic chemicals can also dry out acne to the point of scabbing and can cause acne scarring and deep pits in the skin. Many synthetic chemicals are also used in industrial processes to clean equipment, stabilise pesticides and grease gears – I’m fairly sure you can imagine what damage this is not only doing to your skin but to your body overall.

My daily beauty regime is very simple. My favourite health food is blueberries, hands down. They are jam packed with antioxidants which are essential to healthy skin. I love having them in my smoothies, as a fresh mid-morning snack and sometimes even coated in cocao and coconut oil. Yum!
My favourite energy booster could easily be a delicious raw brownie (or at least I think it is boosting my energy!) but usually if I am feeling a little flat, I have a glass of organic green tea and about ten almonds.
My favourite exercise would have to be yoga. I find it physically challenging as well as relaxing which I love!
I think someone with a good attitude to life is beautiful. I rate that above any physical factor.
